What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a mild skin rejuvenation and resurfacing procedure that exfoliates and renews the skin on the face, neck, or hands using carefully selected chemicals. These treatments are administered in a wide range of strengths, ranging from extremely mild with no downtime to extensive with more significant peeling and recovery time.
At Medical Aesthetics of Virginia, we offer our patients access to a comprehensive range of chemical peels from SkinMedica®. A non-invasive skin procedure is used for both casual rejuvenation and deep skin resurfacing. Our experienced master aesthetician, Deanna Bain, administers all of these peels.
The Illuminize Peel is the perfect chemical peel for first-time patients. This peel helps bring a vibrant, radiant tone to the skin and involves little to no downtime. It works best on mild skin imperfections and can be used on all skin types. It is so gentle that there is no visible peeling after treatment.
Stronger than the Illuminize Peel, the Vitalize Peel addresses mild to moderate skin imperfections, smoothing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as uneven texture and pigmentation. This chemical facial peel is excellent for all skin types. Each peel generally takes 45 minutes to complete, with patients experiencing varying degrees of redness and peeling following the procedure. While there are noticeable results after a single peel, between three and six are usually needed for patients to maintain lasting, dramatic changes.
The strongest of the three SkinMedica peels, the Rejuvenize Peel is one of the best ways for patients to address moderate to severe skin imperfections, such as deeper wrinkles and fine lines, as well as significant texture and discoloration issues. While this treatment is good for all skin types, patients with darker skin first need to receive a Vitalize Peel to help their skin build up a tolerance to the harsher chemicals used in the Rejuvenize Peel. Each treatment takes about 45 minutes to complete and is usually followed by significant redness and peeling. While patients can see a change in their skin after one treatment, between three and six are usually needed to get dramatic results.
